Although the Québec City area is often referred to as North America’s fine dining capital, it could also be called its casual dining capital, its sidewalk café capital, its bistro capital, its wine & cheese capital… In fact, food in Québec City is one of the great pleasures of life. Old Québec alone offers a breathtaking selection of more than 100 restaurants for all tastes and budgets. Québec’s food industry stands out as much for its quality as for its variety. It offers an impressive range of menus: fine Québec cuisine, French gastronomy, fresh-market cooking, tasty meals in family restaurants, international cuisine and specialties from various countries. Most restaurants in Québec have a selection of dishes available à la carte. In Frenchspeaking Québec City, an entrée, as the name suggests, is an entry into a meal, or an appetizer. It is followed by a plat principal, the main dish. Lunch generally costs about 30% less than dinner, and many of the same dishes are available. Lunch is usually served 11:30 to 14:30 hrs, dinner 18:30 until about 23:00 hrs. Tip at least 15% of the bill. Remember that for the Québécois, dîner (dinner) is lunch, and souper (supper) is dinner.

In Canada, tips are not included on restaurant bills and are usually left to the customer's discretion. A tip of 10% of the total cost before taxes is recommended.
